Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve Habitats Field Trip
Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve welcomes you to our teacher-led field trip! We are very pleased to share our beautiful nature preserve with those who want to learn about the three distinct habitats that are present within our 157-acres. These materials will provide you with all you need to guide your students on well-marked trails through woodland, wetland and prairie habitats. There is no charge for this field trip.
Objectives: After completing this field trip, students will be able to:
What to expect during your field trip: This is a teacher directed field trip. Classes will hike through three different habitats. Trails are well-marked and easy to hike. Please do not think you need to be an expert on these habitats to lead this event! Detailed materials to assist you are provided, but it’s OK not to know all the answers and have fun and learn along with your students!
Each habitat takes approximately 30-40 minutes if all activities are completed (if all three habitats are done, it will take approximately 2 hours). A hiking guide is provided for each habitat. Please adapt to the needs of your students. All directions, instructions, background information, activities and a trail map are provided online. Please bring copies of the teacher materials with you, along with field notebooks copied for each student (provided in materials online). On the day of your event, Coffee Creek staff will meet your bus and provide you with additional materials that you will need for the activities. Classes will be outside the entire time so dress for the weather. There are restroom facilities and a picnic shelter.
