The mission of the Coffee Creek Watershed Conservancy, Inc, is to identify, maintain, and enhance the remnant biodiversity that resides within the corridor (Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve) while providing education and recreational experiences for all.

Major Boardwalk Renovations Ahead!

The Board of Directors and the Staff of the Coffee Creek Watershed Conservancy are excited for what the future holds at The Preserve! After roughly a year and a half of closures, the aging boardwalk that leads to the "Creek Overlook" structure will be fully replaced with environmentally conscious, pre-fabricated Wickcraft Boardwalk. The new design features low-impact footings specifically designed for placement over wetlands. Coming Spring 2022!

The Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve is a 157-acre complex of wetlands, woodlands, and prairies.  More than 400 native plant species have been identified on the property.  The magnificent display of wildflowers from spring through fall is one of The Preserve’s most notable features.
Coffee Creek, the centerpiece of The Preserve, runs roughly 2.5 miles through the center of the property. Seven bridges allow visitors to engage the creek and even witness the Spring and Fall spawning of the Salmon and Trout species that call Lake Michigan home.

Bring Your Binoculars!

Northwest Indiana boasts an incredible diversity of bird species. Every Spring and Fall, Lake Michigan acts as a funnel, directing an incredible array of migratory birds along it's shores into the region. Just a few miles north of The Preserve, sits the Indiana Dunes State and National Parks. Both locations are ideal habitat for migrating birds, and Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve (and Coffee Creek) act as an oasis for birds as they move north or south in the continent.

Over 5 Miles of Hiking Trails

Get in tune with nature while hiking our 5+ Miles of trails and boardwalks, through prairies, wetlands, woodlands, and right along side Coffee Creek.
There are 7 bridges hovering over one of Indiana's cleanest creeks (Coffee Creek). Listen closely in the Spring and Fall and you may hear a Rainbow Trout or Salmon splashing against the current to spawn up stream.
While visiting, you'll likely encounter one of many Whitetail Deer that call The Preserve their home. In the Spring listen for Warblers and Sparrows sing as they migrate northward to their breeding territory. Perhaps you'll spot a Bald Eagle or Redtail Hawk perched in the trees, poised for the hunt.
